Saturday, August 8, 2026 : Distant World Somewhere Inside My Memory
© 安岡喜晴 (JoyShine)

Today we went to a sandwich shop in Sanjo Shopping Street.

Then we went to a cafe in the same shopping street.
The shop looked like an old machiya left just as it was.
We took our time over coffee inside.

Old houses bring back the feel of the Showa era.

A lot of memories come back to me.

Memories of my childhood.
Memories of my grandma's house.
Memories of the people around me in those days.

Memory is a mysterious thing.
The things we remember aren't necessarily the important ones.
A moment that meant nothing at the time suddenly comes back decades later.

A room, still new and clean, from when I was a child.
The clock that used to hang there.
The melody that came from it.
The sounds from the kitchen.

At the time, I thought it would all last forever.
But somewhere along the way, a lot of it had gone.

And in the end, only the memories inside me remain.
Perhaps it isn't the building itself that I feel nostalgic for.
It's the time it brings back, the time I can never return to.

A world I can never return to, no matter how much I want to.

A distant, distant world of remembrance, somewhere inside my memory.
