We came to see the night illuminations at Toji Temple, but
the line was much longer than I expected. We couldn't see where it ended.
The atmosphere of Toji Temple at night was way different from that during the day.
The five-story pagoda stood quietly in the background, reminding me that
the main character here was the season itself.
The surface of the water turns into
a mirror, and splits the world into two; the world above and the world below.
It doesn't matter which is real. Both are
equally beautiful, and the transience here itself becomes
the part of scenery here.
The five-story pagoda is
not so outstanding nor restrained, telling the weight of a thousand years.
History doesn't speak aloud, but definitely
here.
The water is not just water.
It reflects another world. Rather than a thing itself, its
reflection stays longer in the mind.
The light picks out each
expression of every leaf, as if it highlights the time a tree had accumulated over time.
Everyone stopped at the same color, and
shared the same stillness.
Crimson trees
embrace the five-story pagoda. Artifice and nature coexist with no conflict.
Behind the deep crimson, a tower appears.
Together with the deep crimson, the tower becomes stronger.
Together with the tower, the deep crimson deepens.
Perhaps, men and women are like this.
Each in its own realm, yet in relation to each other.
This relationship must have kept the world and time beautiful and well-balanced, until this very moment.
