June 7, 2025 Sweet Artistry and Serene Spaces

We went to the sweets shop Onn Kyoto Gokomachi, but
they had already stopped accepting customers, because the wait was over two hours.
I didn't expect this shop to be so popular, coz there are many traditional shops in Kyoto city, like more than 400 years, more than 600 years, and some even more than 1000 years,
and who could have imagined this new shop would become so popular?
Actually, I was attracted by an article I read, how seriously this shop's owner considers blending Japanese tradition into the art of Japanese sweets,
and I was also attracted by the excellent artistry of their sweets. Now, I realize that even something new can rival long-established traditions if it possesses genuine enthusiasm.
Instead, we went to
Murasakino Wakuden. This is one of Kyoto's renowned traditional Japanese restaurants, and I ordered a famous treat,
Seiko.
With that, I enjoyed a relaxing time.
Next, we went to Oike Street to take photos of the
hydrangeas, because she said she wanted to take pictures of them since the hydrangeas blooming there appear in lots of stuff.
Looking at hydrangeas, I always remember the geriatric health care facility, where I once worked, as its name includes "hydrangea",
and Kiyomizu Temple, as it reminds me of the sight of the hydrangeas blooming there.
Then, we went to
a cafe near Aneyakoji-Gokomachi.
It was our first visit here, we had previously talked about visiting sometime because it always seemed uncrowded when we saw it from outside.
As we entered the shop, it was spacious, not crowded, and I really loved its atmosphere, because I really really prefer places that aren't crowded. (So, I don't like Tokyo)
We took a coffee break there for a while, and for dinner, we went to
Rantan and had Chinese soba, then we wrapped up our day with another break at Starbucks before going home.
