Downes Score
Grades the severity of neonatal respiratory distress from five bedside signs (each scored 0-2) to gauge the need for blood-gas sampling and escalation of support; a clinical severity index, not a diagnosis of the underlying cause, and distinct from the Silverman-Andersen score, which grades work of breathing alone, whereas this score also counts cyanosis and air entry.
